Man, the front angle of the car has aged very well. I’m starting to appreciate these cars as time goes on.

I almost bough a ‘97 Probe GTS a few years ago. I dont really understand why these cars get so much hate.

Not bad

I’ve always like the last gen Probe and it’s big brother the MX-6. Pretty close to my ideal 90's car.

Arent these notorious for blowing head gaskets?

these are great looking cars, and for the most part, great driving as well.
my lady friend had one up until 5 or 6 years ago... when stuff started going bad. and it wasn’t even that expensive to maintain...
but... i couldn’t see putting more money into that car because of one thing:
front wheel drive.

The Probe really is a nice car to drive. I had one for about 4 years in non-GT trim. They handle pretty darn well for what they are, and the 5 speed is one of the better I've ever driven. This one really needs the spoiler and rear wiper though.

This is going to sound like a typical shitbag brown diesel manual miata wagon answer:
Underpowered with front wheel drive when it really wasn’t executed that well.

Its not that underpowered 164hp, under 3000lb, 0-60 in about 7 seconds and the Mx6 chassis is pretty good for a 90s FWD car. By no means is it fast or going to be a great handling car but it wasn’t meant to be.

I’m not trashing it, I like them too.
The GTS was decent, but I want to say pretty rare?
The regular I4 was 0-60 in 10 seconds. That is kind of brutal.

What makes the MX-6 a ‘big’ brother?

15 year old me needs a new pair of pants. I drove a ‘96 SE in high school and wanted a GT badly.

Twin brother?

God, I’ve always really liked the probe. This still seems a little steep for the mileage though. But everyone can enjoy a good probe.

The GTS was just a GT with stripes, haha and it was only an option in’97. But yes, the I4 was trash.

Someone should totally buy that and join the club! Those cars are crazy fun

It had great reviews because it was executed extremely well. And for the time it certainly wasn’t underpowered.

My cousin had one nearly this clean, except for the paint, and then proceeded to ruin it. It got a fart can, huge spoiler, and red tractor paint with white stripes. It was pretty awful.

I had a 93 nearly like this for a while.
GREAT car... as long as the vendors know you need mazda parts, rather than ‘Ford’ parts for it.
If it were AWD, I might still have one.
If Ford were to build a car this shape again, or even just the fastback 3-door form factor with a more angular shape, with Focus RS’s AWD, and Lincoln MKZ’s new 2.7TT V6, and Ford’s Dual-clutch gearbox, I would be in line RIGHT NOW to buy it.
Even if it were a Lincoln MKR personal luxury/sport coupe, along size MKZ.
